Ale
The oldest style of beer, top-fermented with a distinctive yeast
character. Ales are fermented at higher temperatures, extracting
the full flavor from the malt. |
Bitter
A well-hopped, cask-conditioned English ale. Usually lightly carbonated
with a floral spicy aroma. |
Lager
Lager is a relative newcomer in the world of beer, dating back
to the mid 19th century. Bottom fermentation combined with aging
(lagering) at cool temperatures creates a beer known as "lager." |
Lambic
Lambic beers are fermented spontaneously by wild yeast. |
Porter
A dark beer made using dark roasted barley. Dark malt flavors
dominate. |
Stout
Derived from Porter, this is very dark ale made with a high level
of roasted grain. Guinness is a dry stout, flavored with hops
and lightly carbonated. |
Weisse
German beer brewed with wheat. Usually cloudy in appearance with
a fruity aroma, it is sometimes served with a slice of lemon.
A very good beer with food. |
